THE NEW BOSCH PKS MULTI SAW

Sep 30 2014  |  DIY Tools

If there is one power tool you simply must add to your list, it's the Bosch PKS 16 Multi Circular Saw. Having just tried out the latest addition to the Bosch range I am definitely going to be adding this one to my list. Although it is listed as a circular saw, the Bosch PKS 16 also cuts tiles... so this is definitely one tool for your workshop!

AFFORDABLE, DECORATIVE CURTAIN RODS

Sep 30 2014  |  Window Treatments

There are plenty of ideas of affordable ways to hang curtains, but I still love the idea of using PVC pipe for the rod and ping-pong balls as finials. Using PVC pipe, a couple of wall mountings and a custom paint job and you can make decorative curtain rods for your entire home for what it would cost to buy one ready-made rod.

PAINT A WOOD TABLE

Sep 28 2014  |  Decor Crafts

Looking for an idea to dress up a small wooden patio table? Here's how to use acrylic craft paint and a homemade stencil to transfer a flower print design onto a sanded wood table. You can use a couple of pieces of scrap wood and recycle the thin foam from packing boxes to make your stencil stamp.

BEFORE & AFTER TEEN BEDROOM MAKEOVER

Sep 24 2014  |  Kids Bedrooms

Decorating a bedroom for a little boy is fun, but when they become teenagers it can be a tad more difficult. Amy at Amy's Casablanca transformed her sons bedroom in bold, bright colours, using bought and found items on the cheap and putting her decorating talents to use to add striped walls and funky accessories.

Sep 17 2014  |  Bathroom Improvement

This amazing bathroom renovation takes a drab bathroom stuck in the eighties and transforms it into a fabulous space kitted out with all the mod cons and a dash of rustic style. When you see the 'before' and 'after' you will definitely want to rip out your bathroom!

HOW TO STYLE A COFFEE TABLE

Sep 16 2014  |  Living Spaces

I receive a lot of enquiries asking for advice on styling a coffee table and bookshelf and thought it might be nice to put together a collection of images for different ways to style a coffee table. While there are those that manage to style a coffee table with little effort, there are others that find it difficult to achieve a sense of balance when styling a coffee table to match the room decor.

JOJO RAINWATER HARVESTING TANKS

Sep 15 2014  |  Gardening

Next on my list of things to do is to add a Jojo rainwater harvesting tank. If the rain that we had last year is anything to go by, it will quickly fill up the tank. You can use rainwater in the home and garden as  a total water solution for your home, but you need to install a system that has all the built in filters. At this stage I just want to be able to have rainwater on hand for the garden and pool, as well as for my soon-to-start veggie and herb garden.

RHINO WALL CLOCK AND MEMO BOARD

Sep 14 2014 |  Rust-Oleum Crafts

When CNA asked me to do a craft for the Rhino Inspired Competition, the first thing that came to mind was to make a wall clock. I already had some clock mechanism and hands left over from a previousDIY Divas workshop, might as well put them to good use. And thanks to CNA for sending over a box of goodies from their new range of craft products now instore.

HOW NOT TO MOUNT A SHADE SAIL

Sep 13 2014 |  Decks and Patios

So, I rushed out and bought a shade sail at my local Builders Warehouse, only to find that the sail was far too small and didn't even offer shade over the area that needed to be covered. Here are my tips on selecting and fitting a shade sail, so you don't have to go through the lengthy and expensive process that I did !

MAKE FABRIC WATERPROOF & STAINPROOF

Sep 13 2014 |  Rust-Oleum Projects

Now that I have finished my outdoor patio sofa I want to upholster in a navy bull denim. The only problem is that bull denim isn't waterproof, or stainproof for that matter. I still have some Rust-Oleum Never Wet left over from my breakfast table project and decided to conduct a test to see if it would make fabric waterproof fabric.

DEAL WITH OIL FIRES IN THE KITCHEN

Sep 13 2014 |  Home Tips

A friend of mine recently experienced the horror or an oil fire in the kitchen that almost got out of control and burnt down the entire house. I am sure there are many homeowners out there who have experienced the fear of putting out an oil fire, but if you haven't here are some tips to ensure you handle the situation.

I MADE MY OWN PATIO SOFA!

Sep 11 2014 |  Beginners DIY

A few months back I featured an article on making your own designer patio furniture. I did mention that this was my dream patio suite and that I would be making my own patio furniture when time allowed. I have now completed the sofa part of the suite. Having priced a similar design at anywhere from R10 000 upwards it will only cost about R2 600 to make my own.

COLOURFUL EASY TO CARE FOR PLANTS

Sep 09 2014 |  Garden Plants

Spring has sprung and I am sure there are many of you, like me, who have rushed off to the garden centre to stock up on colourful annuals. I like to think that I have a green thumb and good intentions when it comes to my garden, but the plants seem to think otherwise! In the spirit of wanting a beautiful garden without having to worry about drooping plants, I am busy potting up a collection of indigenous varieties and succulents.

COOL FEATURE FOR A HOT GARDEN

Sep 08 2014 |  Garden Crafts

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in Gauteng the temperature is steadily rising towards hot, hot. hot ! What nicer way to cool down the garden but to add a small water feature, and this water feature is super easy to make. You will find everything you need for this project at your local Builders or garden centre.

DRESSED UP FLOWER POTS

Sep 08 2014 |  Garden Crafts

While looking for ideas for a flower pot arrangement for one corner of the garden I came across these ideas for dressing up plain flower pots using an assortment of branches or twigs.  If you still have some late pruning to be done, or have a pile of branches lying on the compost heap, here's a great way to put them to good use.

REVAMP CHIPPED AND SCRATCHED POTS

Sep 05 2014 |  Rust-Oleum Projects

Almost finished renovating my outdoor area and it's only furniture and accessories that still need to be made, sourced or revamped. I have plenty of garden containers and pots lying around, but most are chipped or scratched and desperately in need of TLC. To make a feature I used Rust-Oleum Universal oil-rubbed bronze spray paint to spruce up a couple of pots.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR OUTDOOR SPACES

Sep 05 2014 |  Outdoor Projects

Yesterday I was putting finishing touches to my new outdoor area and trying to decide whether to make an outdoor dining table and add chairs, or to make an outdoor lounge set. It was a beautiful spring day and looks like it will be the same today, and made me realise just how lucky we are to have weather that allows us to spend a great deal of time outdoors. I have put together a collection of ideas for turning a plain outdoor area into a great outdoor living space.
